Default 2011 GT500 Shortblock... fit a 2010?

Hey guys. As I patiently wait for my finances to fall in the right place to get a GT500, Ive been doing some thinking. I love the 2010 GT500 refresh, obviously the 2011 SVT equipped 500's are absolute monsters, in particular the better weight balance that the aluminum block gives.

This question may be more for those in the know with the actual parts business or performance engine building: would a shortblock from a 2011 GT500 (all aluminum) be capable ofdirectly replacing the iron short block of a 2010 GT500?

OK all, I emailed Lethal Performance about this and received a reply today.

It appears that Ford Racing does indeed make an all aluminum factory replacement block for the GT500 (2007-2010).

Lethal Performance part number: M-6010-GTWS Cost: $3000

Their advice regarding the swap of parts from the iron block to the aluminum block is the use of main bearings from the Ford GT. No specific part number for that but Im sure those can be ordered from Ford or Clevite. NOTE: This block IS different from the block in the 2011's; these are sleeved, the 2011's use the plasma transfer arc wire stuff.

The gentleman that replied did state he wasnt sure what would be involved swapping a 2011 shortblock into a 2010 Shelby, but should be possible. I figured for that specific question i should email Ford Racing to see what they have to say. However after finding an aluminum block already available specifically for the 2010, Id say my question has been answered.

I also asked about the need to replace springs and struts/shocks due to the lighter weight of the aluminum block, but he stated that the existing suspension setup should be fine. hehe I guess Id just be buying all the parts for the SVT suspension package anyway!

Time to start saving.....

They were using a modified ford GT aluminum block to replace the 07-10 GT500 block. Most places were charging $3600-4000 for it though. The reason I was really interested in the '11 block is for two reasons. 1.) because of the plasma wire arc transfer (however it's said) actually allows it to be slightly lighter than a sleeved aluminum block. 2.) ford has them listed at $2500 MSRP, so you could probably get them even cheaper...and ~$1000 cheaper makes it WAY more affordable!
