I also like the fact that you can just insert the CD without pushing a damn button that makes the whole unit do some damn transformer move so you can put your CD in haha. Some kids like that thing and find it cool.

I find it annoying and I bet it would hit my damn shifter lol.

Welp... after I get my tune adjusted then I will probably purchase it the next day
and schedule an install.

Thanks to everyone for helping find a good unit.
I was way out of the game.
The last time I bought an aftermarket deck was back in the mid 90's when I was in
high school haha.
This thing is perfect for what I need.

Oh yeah I talked to one installer that said he would prolly have to sauder some wires to the amp lead for some reason.
Said something about the way our hookups are.

Anyone know anything about this?
Another shop said they just use connectors and they would not have to do this.

I really have NO CLUE what either are talking about.
But would it make a difference which one was done?

I don't want anyone f-ing up my wires and causing electrical problems though that's for sure.
Advice?

Try NOT to do best buy. They hire any moron and they don't know what they're doing. Try finding a shop nearby that specializes in installin head units. A good installer will know all about the shaker 500 when you ask them about it.

He COULD be referring to the remote on for the amp, but I think that´s just with 1000 shakers with the sub. The remote on is dropped to 5v from the 12v actual remote on line for the sub amps, which requires a 1.3k ohm resistor set in series to drop the voltage to avoid the nasty speaker thumping with an after-market set-up.
I needed to do this for the in-dash custom computer head-unit I made myself as I had a shaker 1000 originally, which lasted a whole week before it saw ebay.

Other than that not just no, but hell no. If they´re going to bypass your factory amps and/or install new speakers anywhere they´d have to jump the amps, or run new wire, but that´s it. No soldering, considering not a single one I´ve ever gone to even knows what heat-shrink tubing is, let alone uses it for installs I wouldn´t trust them to solder anything; as I know they´d cheese-ola electrical tape the soldered leads and resistor, which typically lasts all of a year before they tend to dry out, come apart, and end up causing shorts and the like.
If they at least zip-tie over the electrical tape to make sure it´s held in place for the long haul, then you´ve probably gotten the best ¨installer¨ in your area.

999 times out of 1000 the only thing they do is hire a kid to do the grunt work and do crimp connections, same as best buy. The only difference being the local installer that runs the place usually knows the score.

I´d just link the12volt.com´s complete wiring diagram for this, but I forgot you had to register to see it.

Even the super-cheap metra install kits for our cars come with all the needed factory harness interfaces needed. They just won´t include the needed voltage reduction on the factory sub amps remote leads, if you have it. Then again, even the high-end crutchfield installation papers don´t mention (or provide) it either, as I understand it.

I really like the 4200, but I don't know what to do about the USB cord to connect to my iPhone. The 4200 only has USB connection in the back, so I'd have to snake the cord into my armrest compartment somehow. I don't want to have to open and close the armrest every time i want to get to my phone... has anyone come up with any other arrangements they like?

Forgot to mention, there are sold products to get around this, keeping any extra steering wheel controls and the like in-tact should you have them in addition to pulling the voltage turn-ons down.

Keeping the can-bus signals for certain things, usually for Nav, or if you wish to install a reverse camera. And this will of course do the pull-downs for voltages. Ya, for ours we don´t need to keep much usually, which is why I didn´t bother to spend the coin on one. Think the newer models might have steering controls though. The manual for it shows the other things (speed, reverse, e-brake) it will give access to that some setups might need with a suitably advanced headunit/install.

Should you have satellite or nav as OE options, you´ll probably need the antenna adapter as well.

Does anyone know if the P4200DVD allows "passenger control" of the ipod/iphone? When plugged into the USB port, can the music still be controlled through the ipod/iphone itself, or is it locked? Does music from apps like Pandora get piped through? Thanks.

No "passenger control" unless you have a jailbroken iPhone/iPod touch. You can pipe audio and video in from any app, but it is weird how you have to do it. You have to start playing a song from the iPod, hit pause on the head unit for that song, and then launch whatever app you want to use (i.e. Pandora, Last.fm, etc.). The same thing is true for video. You have to start playing a video from the iPod, pause it on the head unit, and then launch YouTube, SlingPlayer, etc. When I had the 4200 in my F-150 (sold now) I used to use SlingPlayer and pipe the audio and video of SportsCenter into the truck on my way to work. It sure made Atlanta traffic more bearable.
