Yah yah we know about that. We can always add horsepower.

I just wondered what the specifics were. What would you need to do to an 05-09 car to make it handle as well as the 2011 GT in stock form.

A stiffer frame, beefier LCAs, better springs, better dampers,
beefier sway bars.

Assuming the driver is a wash....

The significant factors that would have an effect on lap times are tires and gearing. Remember, the V6 was bouncing off the limiter and has a 6-speed. I suspect that the combination of gearing (trans & diff) and tire in the V6 was well suited for that track.

In any case, it is impressive. I must try to drive a '11 V6 soon. I am curious.

Better weight distribution, better/same suspension, better transmission. If it hadn't been hitting the speed limiter for 15 seconds, it probably would have beaten the '10 GT by a couple more seconds and been on the heels of the '11 GT. For the first time in Mustang history, the V6 is actually a viable performance option and is competitive with the imports of the same class! No longer does it need to be compared to Civic Si's, Nissan Sentras and such.

how do you think an aluminum 3.7L v6 weighs the same as an iron 4.6L? The weight balance would be in the v6s favor.

IIRC last year they attempted to get a track pack GT but ended up getting a car with all season tires and then just threw the summer tires on the car. i guess It is possible that it wasn't a real track pack car (no suspension or rear gear upgrade) but a traditional GT with summer tires.

other than that the V6 PP has the same suspension, brakes, and tires of the '10 GT TP so the only variables are: weather, driver, transmission

(although i think the 3.73 in the '10 GT may be more aggressive/equally aggressive to the 3.31 in the V6)

and i believe the two cars have about identical weight distribution. either way i expected the lap times to be close (slight edge to the '10) but i was completely surprised that the V6 PP beat it by almost a full second (2 second if it didnt have a speed limiter)

The 4.6 hasn't been an iron block since the '05s came out. You must be thinking about the 5.4 which is now all aluminum.
