Need Some Help Please....!!!!
I currently have Nitto NT-555 255/45/18 up front with Nitto NT-555 285/40/18 in the rear. I am also lowered with Eibach Pros. At this point, I would like to increase the rear tire size to 555R 305/40/18 and I'm being told that the increase in diameter of +.7" with the 305's is going to cause problems and trip the ASB system. Would only approx 3/4 of an inch cause this ?? Any input here sure would be appreciated.
Many thanks
Frank

305/40/18's are a little higher on the sidewall ratio than what you are currently running, but you know that already.
Anyway, the increased diameter will slightly mess with your speedo readings and can apparently mess with ABS as well. A quick google search, shows that a fair amount of people have had problems with an ABS error with this tire size. Though, most of the problems seem to be on vehicles other than Mustangs.
I'd be more concerned with rubbing since you're lowered. You've already dropped 1.4" with the springs, and you are going to effectively lose another .7" with the tires. That's over 2" on a tire that is going to be flirting with your fenders as wide as it is. You know what they say: You can go low, or you can go wide... but you can't do both. (Usually)
I'm probably going to get those same nittos on my next tire change, so if you put them on, report back with any problems please. (BTW Discount Tire has good pricing on them)

Remember that the 2nd number is the % in height as compared to width. So a 305/40, the height is 40% that of the width. To keep near the same diameter, you'd want to use 305/35/18's (but those would be rubberbands and look awful)

Our cars seem to handle that tire size with little problems.
I didn't personally had any issues either (when I ran those tires on my jag), but I'm not going to call all of those folks liars.

I edited my above post, since I realized I sounded like I was lecturing you on the meaning of tire sizes. And I'm sure you know what everything means and the potential related problems, and don't need me playing teacher. :P
But, you responded while I was editing and quoted my original post... so I have to live forever with that embarrassment now. LOL
Anyway. I'm interested in that tire too, so please share your research and personal findings. Thanks.
