I would go with a GT automatic. Your getting the true essence of the mustang. The sound and driving characteristics to me are vastly different/improved in a GT. An automatic GT with a quality set of all season tires will make an excellent/spirited daily driver. The maintenance costs are the same whether you buy the GT or the V6. Depending on your age insurance could be a factor. I'm sure you will enjoy the mustang with either the GT or V6. Good luck!

Cool

Don't get me wrong, they are both complete $hit in deep snow, but Ive had a s197Mustang as my DD in Buffalo since 2006 and they handle alot better than most people think.

I had a 2006 V6 and now own a 2007 GT. As far as performance in winter weather, believe it or not, the GT handles better. The limited slip differential combined with traction control makes a HUGE difference, even on the stock tires. I had to have separate snow tires for the V6, dont need that now.

Like some of the other posters have suggested, why not rent one and let your wife drive it for awhile. My wife loves driving the GT, but she was more comfortable in winter weather driving the V6. Just my $.02.

I say at least test drive them both, and let her make the decision from there. But I would definitely recommend a long test drive to make a good decision. Either way she/you will be happy with the stang.

Even if she gets in moments of road rage, I would assume she probably controls herself from just going completely crazy which would mean a GT would be perfectly fine.

I should say that I definitely get times of "road rage" where I'll get pissed off at other drivers, but I don't suddenly fly off the handle and spin the wheels or something. So I think it's important how she reacts to being upset at the wheel that's important.
She is really a pretty good driver. We are in our early 30's so she's been driving for years with only one minor accident to her name. The road rage mostly consists of yelling choice profanities but thats about it. I suspect we'll end up with a GT auto as others have suggested. We'll do our due diligence and figure out what works. We'll likely avoid 05's due to previous bad experience with the first year of new designs...

Thanks again everybody - the input does help!

I think the 05's AND 06's were more susceptible to the issues. 07 was a bit better but it seems the most improvement was with the 08 and 09's. 07 thru 09 GT's can be had for the mid to upper teens. Someone on the forum in MI just picked up a mint '05 GT for $13.5k which is what I paid 2 years ago for a mint, loaded low mileage '06 Pony.

If she can drive, get her a GT. If she is not, a v6...keep in mind a v6 will never sound like a v8. That bothered me when I had a v6

If it was me i would get her a V6 ... But if we were to both drive it i would get a GT.. since i suppose you wife wont floor it often as MOST women.

You = V8
Her = V6 (DUE TO WEATHER SAFETY AS YOU STATED)

V8 = Power
V6 = Less Power & Ecomomy

Power = Money
Economy = Less Money - Before & After Purchase.
