Default technique advise

I just received a GT500(ish) spoiler from thespoilerstore and am going to be installing it today. I have already removed the old one and have taken off the old residue from the factory tape.

What I am looking for is a good technique to getting the new spoiler on there correctly the first time. My assumption is once the covering is removed from the 3M tape and it touches metal, its going to be stuck. I have some masking tape and was going to set it where it needs to be and tape the outline of the spoiler. Hopefully this will help in getting it where it needs to be the first time.

Any advise?

By the way, I have read a ton of threads on thespoilerstore and there have been feedback that is both good and bad. So far, I am very please with the product I received. It was packaged relatively well and the paint matched almost perfectly (U6 Red Candy Metallic). If anyone is interested, Ill post some photos after the install. Its not the 3DCarbon model and therefore doesnt have the "painted gurney flap" that everyone seems to be making such a big deal about.

Pictures are always suggested!

Also, I can't say the best way to do this since I haven't installed a spoiler before, but I'm sure someone will be by soon Just wanted to make a note that pics should happen! lol

That tape isnt too strong so dont worry about messing up the first time cause it can be pulled over rather easily cause the tape needs a few days to mature.

Get 2 friends to help you. Have them stand on either side of the car holding the spoiler. Stand in the middle at the rear of the car and make sure that it is centered (use masking tape to determine center beforehand). Just before you stick it down, make sure that you leave just a small gap of clearance from the edge of the decklid and the back lip of the spoiler - use your fingers to determine that it is the same gap on each end before sticking it down. Done.

BTW, carefully inspect the paint on the spoiler for flaws before installing. I had a flaw in the paint on the one I got and had to return it for another one. Their customer service was great and had a replacement spoiler in a couple of days.

I got the spoiler where I wanted it before taking the backing off of the 3M tape, then put a long piece of masking tape down the center and cut it so that I could remove the spoiler. Then when you're ready to stick the spoiler on, line up the masking tape, if that makes sense

I put mine on last night, heres what you do....

step 1. Get a friend
step 2. open your trunk and get inside, sounds dumb I know
step 3. have your friend put the spoiler over so the holes line up
step 4. screw the screws in just enough so they stay in
step 5. get a knife or something and peel the corners back on the 3m tape
step 6. you and your buddy line it up slowly and press down gently in the spot you want it
step 7. take several steps back, pull out your camera phone, and send pics to all of your buddies

Follow these steps and you will ensure a smooth install

Peel back 1" of each piece of the 3M tape, set the spoiler on the trunk lid and get it into position, thread the bolts in but don't tighten them down all the way, pull the tape out by the 1" that you peeled back, tighten bolts.

I would assume when you say GT-500(ish) it's not an authentic Ford piece? Those have the same studs as the factory wing so it would drop into the factory holes in the trunk.
