No, you don't change gears. Overdrive adds effective ranges to the gears, which makes your car shift differently. You misunderstood my post.

Not on my car unfortunately

My 5th gear is the 1:1 gear, to get to overdrive, I have to shift into 6th.

For the GT500 guys, they are luck. They get TWO gears in overdrive: 0.74:1 4th gear and 0.5 (one half!):1 in 6th gear.
The sacrifice is that their is considerably less deep than my gear box's 1st gear, the GT500 1st gear is just a tiny bit under 3:1, but to compensate, they come equipped with 3.73:1 rear gears.

Granny gears? and additional overdrive to supplement the tranny's overdrive?

Sounds really cool. What kind of torque can this thing take?

Looks like a gearvendor underdrive/overdrive unit. It essentially splits all your gears in various ways depending on your application.

Again, depending on the application, they can take over 2000hp.

Yep....it does the same as the the old C4 corvette's 4+3 manual trans. This is meant for 2nd thru 4th gear.....push the button and it basically gives you a overdrive for that gear. Now add this old 2 speed rearend with a underdrive/overdrive unit and you have the ultimate OD system....next to a Mercedes 10 speed auto or something crazy like that!!

Another question: Will all this crap fit under a 'Stang? The S197 looks like it wil never be able to accept all this unless you lift it like a truck and turn it into an uglyass donk

Supposed to be a joke/ironic......imagine having a 6 speed manual...now add the underdrive/overdrive unit which basically adds a OD per gear and then throw in a 2 speed rear in which you could engage high gear....on top of the under/overdrive unit......mega OD.......I guess I have a quirky sense of humor.

While I was at work, I could not help but ponder the permutations of possible gears you would have on a 6spd tranny equipped with an after-tranny gear and a two-speed rear diff.

I came up with 24 possible individual gear ratios, a 24 speed! That is assuming that you can use the after-tranny gears for ANY gear of the tranny itself, even the 1st tranny gear.

Yep....you also have the quirky sense of humor!!

My brother is a truck driver.....he let's me drive it once in awhile on desolate roads....it's cool...there are 2 gears for every gear plus the 2 speed differential....try remembering to switch down the RR then the underdrive so you can down shift or in another variation of switches to complete an upshift....all along keeping the RPMs under 2500 or hit the sweet spot so you don't have to use the clutch.....lots of fun!!
