He has been driving since he was 14 and driving tractor trailers all his life, so I think he knows how to drive. Its just all this goddamn snow thats melting and turning to ice underneath this 12" we just got. I cant stand it I just want warm weather already.

In my experience, big chunky offroad tires are worse in snow, not better.

An offroad tire does NOT constitute a decent winter tire. What works in mud doesn't equate to working in snow/slush/ice. There are different design characteristics that make a winter tire shine compared to an A/T or offroad tire.

exactly, we had six inches yesterday morning, then sleet and freezing rain and then another 14-16" over nite ! (I'm forty miles west of Phila)

Oh well I suspect this is all I'll get to see of my 'stang till April !!

Actually, it's "siping" which adds bite on ice and more packed types of snow. But there are quite a few other qualities. One major is the tires ability to "clean" it's tread. You've been behind cars in snow and have seen how the tread eliminates the snow from the tread on some as the tread rolls off the contact patch while others have packed snow that doesn't come out. The later will cause a tire to act like a slick.

well you didn't say anything about ice, yes a nice layer of ice plus snow is bad news for anything but a snowmobile

But getting a hummer from your g/f on the back of a snowmobile in -10 degree weather isn't as comfortable as it is in the car.
