If GM can have a C1-C6 why cant Ford have a M1-M6.
BUT, your point is absolutely correct, and basically is already being done as:
Mustang
Mustang GT
Mustang Shelby Cobra
Can you imaging what your vett friends would say if GM made a 4.0 V6 Vett?. Although I have never been to a Camaro site, I would imagine the V-8 V-6 discussion goes on there just as much.
Engine size and HP are personal things, I would never own a 4 or 6 mustang but that's my opinion, I could care less if someone does own 1/2 or 3/4 of a motor in a Mustang.
Not trying to set you out because I know the intent of your message, but that was just the perfect example, those little darts and digs like that are what I am talking about.
Strictly an educational point but Corvettes "C" classes is not the horse power or engine size, but actually describes the body style... For example the C-1 was the Corvettes mfg'd from 1953 till 1962, the C-2 started in 1963, My C-4 Style was from 1984 till 1996, The "C" classification changes by the year and Body styles....
If Mustangs had an "M" designation for 'Stang generations, the first gen would be "M1"
The SN95 would be M4?
and our S197s would be M5?
But I guess we do not use a M-designation because that sounds too much like beamer models.
This is the Ford Mustangs model/year designation. Pretty straight forward. I would also prefer the M designation mentioned earlier on in the thread but, this is how it really is: GENERATIONS
First Generation (1964 ½ - 1973)
On March 9, 1964, the first Mustang rolled off the assembly line in Dearborn, Michigan. A month later on April 17th, 1964, the Ford Mustang made its world debut.
Second Generation (1974-1978)
For almost a decade, consumers had come to know the Ford Mustang as a power performance machine, with performance increases delivered on an almost yearly basis. Ford took a different approach with the second generation Mustang. This a good way to state the car sucked!
Third Generation (1979-1993) FOX BODY
Sleek and redesigned, the 1979 was the first Mustang to be built on the new Fox platform, thus kicking off the third generation of the vehicle.
Fourth Generation (1994-2004) S95
Not only did 1994 mark the 30th anniversary of the Ford Mustang; it also ushered in the fourth generation of the car, which was built on a new FOX4 Platform.
Fifth Generation (2005-2011) S197
In 2005, Ford introduced the all-new D2C Mustang platform, thus launching the fifth generation of Mustang. As Ford put it, "The new platform is designed to make the Mustang faster, safer, more agile and better-looking than ever." In the 2010 model year, Ford revised the interior and exterior of the car. In 2011, they added a new 5.0L V8 engine to the GT line up, and upped the output of the V6 model to 305 horsepower.

As someone said earlier, v6 mustangs are the bread winner for Ford when it comes to Mustang sales. If they make the model profitable for Ford, I'm all for it. Not only that, but the 2011's v6's are ridiculous. 305hp and 30+mpg? Yes please. A 2011 v6 has more horsepower than the v8's of yesteryear. Which proves the saying "no replacement for displacement" false. And as far as the auto vs. stick debate, meh....some people just can't drive stick, either physically, or it would drive them insane from their commutes. At least we have the option of HAVING 3 pedals in a performance oriented car unlike some other cars. Nissan GT-R, Taurus SHO (no I'm not comparing the two), are a few that come to mind.
So yeah, I have nothing against automatics or v6's. Would I buy one? No, not for me at this stage in my life. I'm more performance oriented, wanted the bigger engine to have a platform that offered more to start with. Wanted the sportiness of being in control of what gear I want to be in at all times.
I'm sure there will be some point in my life where I say "enough is enough" and don't care so much about the power and performance, and will own an auto v6, or whatever the less powerful engine at the time may be. But, that probably won't be anytime soon. I'll probably be old and using a cane by then.

I find it odd how my car goes from being totally cool, to being disregarded because of the auto trans. Weird wacky world we live in...

Did anyone give Vin Diesel any **** for having an auto trans in the GNX or the Challenger?? I don't think so! lulz
lol tell me about it.. sounds like a typical Saturday at work! Such a simple thing to do.

Hey now, the GNX was only offered in an auto. He didn't have the choice in that matter. (Hence my argument earlier about badass cars where you don't HAVE a choice in transmissions, grinds my gears so to speak). It really irritates me when you don't have a choice in the matter. I also wish production cars would have sequential manual gear boxes. DSG is the closest thing to it right now, but that's not a manual.

I remember shopping around and not finding an auto in site.
He even tried to convince me to get the manual lol
I love driving a 5 speed, but I also love the "go now!" of the auto!
Depends on the car. My previous car only came in a 6 speed manual. 2 or 3 cars before that, you could get it with a stick only in a 4 banger, if you wanted the v6, you had to get the automatic.
GT-R auto only, but you get cool little slappy pedals to play with *yawn*, same with the SHO.
And hell, you can't even get a full size truck in a stick anymore. Unless you want a diesel. Trucks are supposed to be sticks, no offense to automatic owners. SVT raptor in a stick would be amazing. I'd ditch the mustang in a heartbeat for that. That thing is so purely redneck, its awesome.
When I was looking for my Mustang, I had a HARD as hell of a time finding what I wanted. I ended up settling for something I didn't really want, well, sort of. I wanted a premium GT with a stick with HIDs. Well, everyone I found like that had a crap ton of other options and cost way too much. Or, it had all the options I wanted, except it was an auto. I said screw it and bought a 100% base GT with just 3.73s. Which was basically my second option, since I could build it the way I wanted it with the money I saved.
IIRC, the current dodge challenger if you want a stick, you have to pay EXTRA for it. Not the normal $995 automatic transmission fee, but a $995 MANUAL transmission fee.
