So i searched the stickies and various threads but just wanted quick confirmation...was going to change it this weekend.

Is the fill line right to the bottom of the fill hole or slightly below it ?

Stupid question as well, but level should be measured when the car is on a flat surface right ? Im lowered so getting under it is going to be a PITA.

That's the stuff you need but if I recall correctly I usually purchase 3 qts of diff fluid and the bottle of additive. Seems I always have some left over...

What you'll want to do is purchase a pump or length of tubing to run into the fill hole and over the rear tire where you can easily fill the diff from the side of the car. Then lower the car and with an overflow pan under the diff fill until it drips out of the fill hole. Replace fill plug. If the car is so low you can't even do that get both ends of the car on jackstands.

The fill line is right below the hole (1/8'' I believe) but Ive always filled it to the hole. You'll get a bit out of the vent for a few days afterwards but no biggie. Or could jack the rear and let a bit flow back out once it's full. Messy job any way you look at it. One of the few things I hate having to do on this car.

 

Amsoil and parts stores sell a pump that fits on the bottles. Makes things go alot less messier. 3qts and one tube of modifier. Fill up diff until it comes out of fill hole.

 

Fill to the bottom of the fill hole.
The distance inside the diif would
make level checking about the same
if it is jacked up or not.
Unless you are jacking it up to a 45 degree angle.
But under 10 degrees of jacking should not
effect the fill hole reading.
The inside distance from the fill hole to the other
side is just not great enough to effect the fill level
at small jacking angles.

I would not use anything but ford or ford racing friction modifier, I know amsoil makes good stuff but these clutches are really prone to chatter on tight turns. If you get chatter adding another half a bottle should take care of it.
