2005-2014 Mustangs Discussions on the latest S197 model Mustangs from Ford.

Why do I hate the new 6-speeds?

I disconnected my skip shift solenoid yesterday. Drove to work and back and even intentionally getting into skip shift territory, the computer didn't complain one bit that it was unplugged. And, obviously, you can shift into second during skip shift parameters now.

The first thing to try should be the throttle reset. If the computer doesn't really know where zero on the pedal is, it won't make things happen quite the way you expect.

There is also the possibility of a larger than normal dead-band down near zero throttle. This one is harder to fix.

I know there was a thread detailing the options for easily resolving the "dead" zone...

I don't think I'd categorize the procedure I read about as "easy". Disassembly and bending the internal parts of more than one variable resistor sounds a bit dodgy to me, never mind what may have been changed by Ford since that write-up was posted (in the light of the Toyota 'unintended acceleration' mess).

Whether it's possible to do something external that's dead-nuts reliable is another matter.

Yeah, but there was mention of the fact that you can achieve the same results by loosening the bolts and pushing the entire module in one direction (I think toward the firewall, but I cannot be sure) taking advantage of the "play" in the bolt-holes to make the adjustment...

I like the 2011's I've test driven. 6 gears is great for the track and or N/A

I really like my 06' Manual (Hurst Shifter, stock ****) 5 speed because I'm supercharged and the twin screws get such good pull all the way through the gears, on the street and with the power, I wouldn't want 6 gears.

My 1-4 with my Saleen goes through the gears to redline plenty fast for me now with my stock 3:55 gears, I still can barley hold on if I go all out. Having six gears from my comparisons with a lot of power on the street is somewhat annoying to me. Erik
