Has anyone pulled up beside newer vette at redlight?

I own a 2006 Corvette and a 2011 Mustang V6. Both are incredible cars, but in different ways. Even with the 305hp in the new V6, the Corvette would eat it for lunch. The new GT would probably give my '06 a good run for the money, but the newer *stock* Corvettes (2008+) bumped it up another 38hp to 438... with the lighter weight as well, I wouldn't mess with 'em without some serious tuning. But heck, have fun with 'em anyway... maybe they'll blow a shift and make you smile!

OK, a fully fit out 2011 with the brembos is going to come in at about 3625 lbs, a 2011 standard come in at about 3590-3600 lbs. No 2011 comes in at 3550 normally loaded, that was the 2010 with the lighter 4.6 engine but with added chassis welding and support and interior work that made it heavier than the 2007-09's. The 2005-06 Mustang GT premiums came in fully loaded at 3510 lbs, and 3490 without the heavy sub woofer(shaker 1000 option).
So you have a fully fit out 2011 GT at around 3625 lbs, 3:31 gears or 3:71 gears @ 412 HP(360rwhp)
or a 3180lb Corvette with 436 HP, 445 lbs lighter than the Mustang = 45HP gain, so you really have a 481 HP car against a 412 HP car.
All things being equal with tire grip and driving, the Corvette will win every time easily.
Stop making ridiculous comparisons, our cars need to lose weight and the higher end versions have to be taken more seriously by Ford. The Corvette is far more nimble and fast because Chevy designs it that way from the start. Our rear suspension was slapped together after an executive at Ford decided the 05 wouldn't be getting IRS, and they had maybe 1 month to re-design the current one. Wake up Ford, Erik

A Corvette GS (more like my brembo premium) is 3311lbs according to Edmunds.
And my 2011 GT 6spd Manual made 380rwhp stock, here's my dyno:

So really thats a 300lbs diff and ~ same power.
Biggest difference is traction, Corvette has 315s

angrybits, like with all cars and dynojet dyno runs, there differences between Dyno's and the different cars. Many new 2011's pull around 360-380rwhp. Your Dyno run and your particular car put down the high end of this model. The average at the crank listing is still 412 by the manufacturer.
The same is true true of the C6 Corvette, the average listed crank HP is 436. So there will be more powerful individual C6's than that as well, so your higher than average dyno is no different than a Corvette owners higher numbers than their stock crank listing might indicate.
I believe the stock C6 Corvette is fitted with 285 wide rubber, and those tires are flush to the fender, so 315's for that model are not stock and would stick out from the fender some with a standard offset.
The Edmunds weight of 3311 must have been with a convertable or glass roof, because the adding of the performance package to the C6, brakes, springs, dampers and sway bars adds around 40-45 lbs to make it 3225 maybe 3230 lbs. 3311 is too heavy for a standard coupe C6 Corvette with performance package. Besides, the stock basic C6 package in straight line racing (which was what I was referring to per Thread subject) will still dust a 2011 GT weighing 3590 lbs or a 3625 with full performance upgrades either way.
MrSandman, as far as IRS is concerned, it was planned for the 2005 model, but scratched at the end of the design phase with the Mustang. The Boss 302 2012 model(LS) is only about 35lbs lighter than a fully fit out 2011 GT, so it still come in at about 3590 lbs with 442 HP at the crank. Yes, it is better handling than the stock GT 2011, but will still not be as fast or corner as well as a C6 Corvette. Sorry. Erik

Just to add a couple of points. I don't take anything away from Ford in their design as the vette is a much more expensive car and should perform better. I have 2 mustangs and a corvette and each have their place. Yes, the new vette will beat a new stang but once mods start it just deppends on who spent the most money as speed is money...
For the poster that talked about easing out off the line with the C6ZO6. That's respect but also, at least where I live, the police will throw you in jail if they even think you were street racing. That is why I save it for the track. No grudge match is worth jail or hurting a bystandard.
