Default TMPS??

I am looking at buying a new set of wheels and tires for my 2011 mustang. Can I use the existing TMPS sensors or would I have to by new ones? This is my first car with this feature, and I really don't understand how the system works. I know it senses when pressure is low on one or more of the tires, but don't know when they need to be changed, or even if they need to be changed.

You should be able to transfer the TPMS sensors from the old to the new wheels. I know you can do it on the 05 - 09 Mustangs. Just not a 100% sure about the 2011's. You'll also need the TPMS xmitter tool to calibrate the new sensors.

If it is like the older TPMS sensors you can use the same sensors but you will need new bands. If you buy from somewhere like tirerack.com or american muscle or someone of that nature that does the mounting and balancing for you, you can order the TPMS sensors already set up for you, then you just need the recalibration tool or take it to a dealership to have them reset them.

it's not like the 05-09 cars with the bands. The 2010+ uses the valve stem. I was able to have mine transfered over but they are very fragile from what I'm told when it comes to remvoing and reinstalling them so make sure the shop is experienced with them.
