Default replacing stock cam phasers

I have an early 05 with the diesel sounding idle. From what I have read its most likely the cam phasers. Has anybody replaced them with success? Is it really no big deal like ford says? Are the lockouts an option on stock valve train? Will the lock outs affect power positive or negitive? Ive read through some of the other threads but not much recent info.
