There are fender-splash-shield-pin-type-retainers, that holds the fender-splash-shield in place....look in the service manual for the p/n.

PS. Buy some extra ones and send me some...just for spares

Ditto

Those plastic pins break fairly easily and I'm pretty sure that's all it is on your splash guard.

I removed mine in 06 when I bought my car in the over all quest for weight reduction. Never had issues with them removed.

Those might total 5 pounds in all...seems stupid to remove them.

Mine have been in and out so many times I have several pins missing. I believe napa sells replacements.

There's only a handful of weight reduction mods that net big savings. Driveshaft, wheels, swaybar, jack & spare then rear seat delete(pending you dont need the rear seat). Then its high dollar weight savings in front end suspension. after that it is all nickel & dime weight reductions which all add up. I had cut 250 honest pounds with deleting items such as the wheel skirts. For a guy like me who cares only about 1/4 mile performance thats just another 5lbs off the nose of the car which is where you want your weight savings(& rotating mass). So for you maybe it is stupid. For guys like me it is the end game result which is only done by these type of mods for weight saving.

When the pins fell out of mine I got new ones from Napa. Also used 3M tape around the pin holes between the metal and liner to help hold it tight. Rattled even with new pins and was driving me nuts.
