4.0 Mustang is it a thing of the past now?

I love my 4.0.
Yeah its not fast, but I really don't give a ****.
It looks good, its very dependable, has a pretty nice interior for '05.
In short I love my car, the only people that don't like them are people that have never owned one. I'll most likely never sell mine.

I love the 2010+ mustangs. My wife's 4.0 Premium is our first Mustang. The ride, interior and exterior design is great. Her car has given me a new hobby and I've spent a few $$ tinkering with it. I'd rather have more ponies under the hood, but the SCT/BAMA tune has given it a bit more juice and a bit more fun to drive. Now I'm just waiting for the 2014 model. If I like it I might just buy one - and one with the extra ponies. If not I could always find a used 2012/2013 GT. In my opinion the 4.0 does not belong under the hood of a mustang. However, the 3.7 has made the v6 a viable power plant for the car.
I do have one thing to credit the 4.0 for... Because of the lack of horsepower I've had a lot of fun reading about this topic! HA.... :-)

I get attached to my cars, I gave my 2000 3.8 V6 to my 17 yr old son who loves it as much as I do. It has 187,000 miles, looks and runs like new. It's never had a major problem, just brakes, oil, tires and plugs. I've always had seat covers, the inside looks new. It will still get to 60 in 7 seconds, which beats the original Mustang V8s and averages 27 mpg. It has a great aftermarket sound system with a sony 300W amp and a 10" sub.
305 HP is too much for a new driver imho, the 2000 is a very nice first car for a kid.

Well said, lol! With a few basic performance and handling mods, I've made my V6 into a reasonably quick car that's a lot of fun to drive. My daughter's friends think of me as the "cool dad" and all want to ride in it with the top down. I think the exterior style is just dead on perfect. It looks more aggressive than the 2010+. That said, I would dearly love to have 300hp, either in an older v8 or a newer v6. Right now I just can't justify the cost, though. A new premium convertible cost nearly TWICE what I've got in mind. Mine still runs great and I have no reason to trade it. At some point I may trade it in on a used GT or V6, but I'm in no hurry to do that.

I am getting up there and actually plan on being BURIED in my 4.0.
Drives it like you stole it.
And it still drives like day one.
I had to get a second car just to keep from
racking up the daily mileage on the 4.0.

Drive it every day on a 45 mile one way commute, drag race it on the weekends, ran nitrous for two seasons, pulled that for the Xcharger at 90,000 miles.
Now have 179,500 showing on the odometer on the stock bottom and top ends. Will just replace it with another 4.0 and keep going (although maybe with a little port and polish on the heads before installing the new engine)
