I think there used to be a lot of lag associated with them being that far away from the engine, but I watched and install on a Vette on the Power Block a couple years back and they seemed to think that is no longer an issue

Clarence can be with pipieng/plumbing. and ive heard the oil pump for the turbo itself has issues.

Upside, since the turbo is mounted outside of the engine compartment, there is no negative impact on underhood temps.

down Side, since the turbo mounts behind and under the rear wheel(s) of a car it can be prone to sucking up water.

The lag thing is a non-issue unless (like with any turbo) you oversize the thing. Anytime you don't match the turbo size to the application you can get either major lag or hit a wall at lower than ideal RPM.

To combine what others have said, along with a few more details:

Pros:
-Sounds awesome
-No impact on underhood temps
-Similar power gains to other turbo systems

Cons:
-Prone to damage due to the location
-Reliability concerns voiced by many users, mainly due to failing oil pump
-Slightly more lag than a turbo positioned closer to the engine
-Harder/more expensive to upgrade if you decide you want more power in the future

Hellion's turbo kit for the 2010 GT is roughly the same price, makes more power, and is easily upgradable should you someday decide to go with a forged motor / more boost.
