Pinion seal replacement gone BAD!!!
Well everyone, this is the reason I am so damn paranoid cause it seems that everything happens to me. I brought the car in to my local dealership for a pinion seal replacement, I drove the car out of the lot (everything seemed good) got on the highway and right as soon as I got on I felt something like slow the car down and than a grinding noise started!!! I immediately pulled over and ofcoarse **** my pants. Called ford roadside assistance, they called 5 mins later saying "o its a private highway and they use their own towing company, you have to get off at an exit". I started flipping, drove the 1/4 mile to the exit, got off and called back and told them where I was. They than tell me its a 3-4 hour wait time and again I was like WTF!!... My father called and told me I'll meet you there and follow you, just drive it to the dealership and whatever needs to be fixed we'll fix it (luckily my parents are willing to help me if its not covered under warranty and arent mad). I got back to the Ford dealer and after about 2 hours they rulled out and said its the pinion bearings and they needed to order them and replace them. I most likely wont have the car back until monday or tuesday.. I am honestly just sick to my stomach that I simply brought it in for a pinion seal change and now have to deal with basically rebuilding my rear end on a car that 1 year old and has only 15k miles. They said I most likely dont need to change the ring and pinion, but if I wanted to I could since they already have it apart. You guys think I should just change the ring and pinion this way the ENTIRE rear end is all new parts. Also should I stick with the 4.10's or just go with 3.73's so I wont be at like 2500rpm at 65-70mph. Any help would be great and sorry if I sound like I am ranting or over reacting.

Stealerships are in the busisness of SELLING
cars, not fixing them.
The service area is most usually just a front
to help sell cars, thats all.
The same can be said for stealership body shops...
If they were any good, they would not be working
at a stealership...

Sorry to hear about your rear gear woes. Wow, I do not know what to say.
Actually, I do know what to say: Incompetence. While the morons had your seal off, could they not look in and see the bearing was bad and the cause of the seal going bad?

Your 4.10 installer left the pinion loose or
didnt set the preload properly and
the pinion ate the seal.
Or wose yet, reused the old crush sleeve.
Or an inferior aftermarket seal was used.
Take it back to the 4.10 installer and
have them fix it pronto.
p.s. if the pinion is excessivly loose, the
gears are toast and you will need new gears
as well as a new pinion seal...

Grabber I really dont know what to say dude. Your luck has gotta turn soon. Dealer service is just so disappointing. They certainly should have seen the bearing damage. I would keep the 4.10s myself. I love how my car drives with them.
