Rear diff leak?? With pics!!

LOL you know me to well man! I think its just easier to take it to Ford. If it leaks after they replace it, its up to them to fix it. If I replace it but damaged the seal in the process, I'm SOL. I just find it weird though, cause the car has sat for weeks sometimes and I have never seen a spot or drop on the floor. Guess it must be a REALLY slow leak.

It's a $6 part. I just did mine. Mark the nut on the pinion, lock the E-brake... pop out the old, in with the new, torque back up to the mark. (you'll know it when you're there as it's like hitting the wall when you're on the crush sleeve)... Sucks if you don't have a lift... little cramped even on a lift as packaging is tight... But overall pretty simple and doable.

Right. And as a matter of fact, they are full time employees who are paid to do nothing else but to do exactly that: Be the eyes and ears to watch for anyone stupid trying to pull the wool over a dealership to do warranty work that should not be covered by warranty service.
If someone has a concern, I suggest the best course of action. I track Mustang orders, which helps make the wait time easier. I also contribute by researching frequent issues, and making sure that information reaches the right people. Trust me, I have enough to do without reporting to dealers on specific mods.
Yeah I am going to give them a call in the morning and see what they have to say.. I am going to tell them that the leak is coming from the pinion seal. If anything I am sure the ford dealership will know how to replace a pinion seal. JDM offered to do it, but they dont have availibility until oct. 19 and I am not waiting that long.
Your dad is correct on suggesting the dealer for inspection. They will be able to diagnose the leak, suggest the best course of action, and provide an estimate on the repair. Have a good weekend!

Ok well I have an appointment tomorrow morning at my dealer to diagnose the problem. I know I could probably do it myself, but I'd rather just have ford do it, so if it leaks afterwards all I have to do is take it back and I'm sure they will stand by their work. Let everyone know how it goes in the morning

Your 4.10 installer left the pinion loose or
didnt set the preload properly and
the pinion ate the seal.
Or wose yet, reused the old crush sleeve.
Or an inferior aftermarket seal was used.
Take it back to the 4.10 installer and
have them fix it pronto.
p.s. if the pinion is excessivly loose, the
gears are toast and you will need new gears
as well as a new pinion seal...
