Black Out Panel Issue

Basically, you have to start from scratch and remove the tape and residue not only from the car's painted surface but also from the panel. Both the panel and car will need to be properly preped before you apply the new tape to the panel and car.

The first time I put mine on I didn't prep it properly and I'm lucky it didn't fall off while I was driving because it was barely hanging on the next day. I reapplied new 3m tape, cleaned the truck with alcohol and it's on there good now! Though I still have to check it from time to time... my subs tend to make it loose! LOL

Lol. I'm kinda worried about my subs kicking mine off. Lol. But it seems to be on pretty well. But I'll keep checking it. I can't stop looking at it when I go to my car. Hahaha. Hard to believe something so cheap and subtle can change the way you feel about your car.

Typical 70% alcohol is not the best for prepping the surface due to the remaining constituents in the alcohol acting as contaminants. You can find the higher percentages of alcohol (I believe I used 90%) at most pharmacies. Also, the ambient/surface temps should be in the 60-80 deg. F range. After application, don't drive the car for 12-24 hours since vibration affects the curing process. Also, don't get the tape wet for at least 24 hours.

Nuke - I think it will be alright. I heated it up, took it off the car, striped the old tape off, cleaned both the trunk and the panel with rubbing alcohol, reapplied Loctite double sided mounting tape to the top and bottom of the panel and re-installed it and heated it up to help make sure it actually grabs properly. I tried pulling it off after I reinstalled it and already couldn't even begin to peel it off. I would have put more tape on but I only bought one roll, thinking it would be enough to do what I wanted but it just covered the top and bottom like before. But it was wider and had a higher mounting weight so it should be fine with just the top and bottom.
Thanks for the helps guys, I'll get some pictures up once I get my wheels on for those that are interested.

The problems that can arise from improper prep and installation are not evident by trying to pull it off immediately after the application. It may feel fine but over time is when improper installation will rear its ugly head. Occasionally though, even a half-azzed install (not saying yours is; just saying it could have been better) works out.

What?! You didn't cover the entire backside of the panel with double sided tape?!
