Default Blinking third brake light?

I noticed that the third brake light on my Mustang blinks when I have the brakes on. Is this an aftermarket thing, or factory? Because I think it looks stupid and it obviously doesnt help anything because I got rear ended last week... Just curious.

Hey BeachBlv,

The blinking third brake light may have been a mod installed by the previous owner. I'm bummed to hear about your accident! I hope no one was injured & you get the 'Stang back soon.
