Welcome. I know very little about the HID option for the mustangs from the factory, but I'll try to throw some info your way.

First off, the bulb size on a mustang will always be H13 (or 9008 either will work).

The problems you are describing could be any variety of wiring problems (maybe frayed, or the ballast(s) is/are going out?). Or you can get lucky and it could be the bulb is bad. I would just try replacing it [the bulb] first, and see if that solves your problem. If not, post back here.

From this thread:
https://mustangforums.com/forum/2005...tting-off.html

It seems that just ANY HID replacement will not do. So you are going to need exact factory replacements (or another bulb with the same wattage) if you want to change out the bulbs, they are called Osram Xenarc D3R 35W bulbs, from what I have been told.

Now you asked about color temps? In my opinion, you should never exceed 6000K, that will give you a nice light blue tint along with a very pure white base color. Anything greater than that will be deeper and deeper blue, then eventually purple (around 8000K-9000K).

Anything below 6000K will be white, and below 5000-4000K will obviously be yellow-white (lower than that and you start to get into the superstar sylvania bulbs, WHICH ARE NOT HID, so do NOT use those).

Are you asking how to change the bulbs? There should be a write up somewhere on this forum just search it, otherwise let me know, I or another forum member can guide you through the process- its fairly simple.

send pics... of the ballast and bulbs so we can clarify what you need and to confirm it is in fact HID and not some mickey mouse wannabe.

it is mostly likely an aftermarket HID kit (I dont think a 2006 v6 even had an HID option factory).
These kits have all kinds of problems, and the problem you are describing is common.

The ballast is failing or has already failed. The bulb is probably fine. Replacing the bulb will most likely not fix the problem.

The cheapest solution would be remove the HID kit completely and go back to the stock bulbs. Or you can get a new aftermarket HID kit for around $120. The are very simple to install and are completely plug and play!
