Suspension & Cosmetics or Drivetrain???

I live in Oklahoma and got mine for $14k with 80k miles, garage kept, with the s/c, cowl, and wheels on there. I looked at GTO's, Z's, etc, for months. Stangs are abundant.

yep it can be done - with $2-3k extra... and patience and persistance, you can find a clean GT that is a few thousand under NADA value. boom. 90 more hp. It is work to buy and sell but so is putting a FI kit on there, having to use another car for the down time

I'm in Sallisaw, and go to the Tulsa area pretty often.

edit: like the wheels... i'd get louvers but skeptical about the already limited visibility

I'd deffinitely swap out the tranny first if its already giving you problems. I'd hate to see you sink all your funds into cosmetics or suspension, just for the transmission to go out on you.
On another note, I vote you go FI on this car instead of buying a different one!

If I'm reading your post right then Ford should cover the fix on the tranny? So then the issue becomes what do you do after.
I would still stick to new wheels and tires plus suspension (shocks/struts, springs, adjustable sway bars and leave it at that for a while since you won't be dragging). That will already make times faster in auto cross.
To stay in the 2-3000 range will be tough though if you go to do suspension, RTR wheels, or a tranny build. I don't imagine you having much left for anything thing else after that even if you can do it all yourself.
