Default Repainting

Have you guys had much experience with repainting your stang?

I'm wanting to repaint mine the original color black (have a nicks and scuffs and whatnot), and also add a grabber blue stripe.

What do I need to look for from a "reputable" paint shop? And any suggestions for good ones in Germany?

Thanks!

Did you try having your paint buffed out by an experienced retailer. I would try that first as you may find it is all your original paint needs. It will save you a lot of money.

I agree with modman. You could potentially remove most of them with some research and proper use of a dual action orbital polisher + supplies ($250-$300 total), get a well reputed paint and body shop to do the work, and then lastly look into the repaint.

Repaints just cost a hell of a lot. Recently there was a thread on it, with people bringing back quotes of about 6k-8k for full repaints and that wouldn't likely even include your stripe. It's an expensive idea to toy with.

you shouldn't need to repaint the entire thing to take care of rock chips and whatnot. Just the affected parts/areas.

But yes, painting is expensive. Custom painting (your stripe) is even more so

Yes they are expensive, but that was a color change. Repainting the same color won't be 6k, because you don't have to do any jams or the engine bay, and I am no painter but I don't believe you would need to prime the car either for a repaint in the same color. I'd honestly be surprised if a same color repaint were over 2k.

then prepare to be surprised.

Basecoat alone, for a full respray, all exterior panels, you'll be looking at somewhere between 25 and 30 hours of paint labor. Plus clearcoat (I'm not going to do the math to calculate it here, but assume no less than 5 hours). Plus supplies. Plus repair time for all the rock chips/dings/chips/etc. Plus time to detrim the entire car. Plus administrative items (varies based on how much the shop is going to rip you off)

And yes, it will get primed. Any repaired areas require priming before base can be applied.
