I have read mixed reviews as they either die fast or last so I have been tempted to buy since they are a good price.

I have used them on both my bikes and in the foglights of my mustang and have had no issues. I use the 35w 5,000 b/c I like a pure white light.

I have them and my friend has them too, mine look good with 5000k heat, 35w I believe. My friends are in a Dakota and for some reason the light shoots all over the place, like his lows are brighter than his highs because the high beams shoot way up high. Mine are fine in my stang though, haven't had people flash me yet.

The different light patterns are due tot h different reflectors they go in to. The reflectors are made for halogens, so many times the light pattern has a lot of harsh spots when putting in HIDs. You will likely get a couple of purists jumping on these threads going on about how dangerous it is to put HIDs in a halogen housing, but IMO it really is case by case on the housings. some are better than others in using HIDs.

when you stuff cheap hids into a headlight that isn't projection based, the light scatters everywhere and they are pretty useless. that's probably why your friends dakota doesn't have clean light output

I'm going to have mine headlights retrofitted and modded instead. costs a lot more, but it'll actually produce light properly and look better.

I've never had them but I have always had HIDs on any vehicle I have and you should never worry about a melting issue with a 35watt kit.

putting the most expensive HID bulb in the world into a reflector housing will produce the exact same results.

It's not a matter of being a "purist" or not, it's a simple fact: HID bulbs need projector housings, otherwise you're just creating glare, reducing the potential usefulness of the HID lights.
Best case, you just can't see as well as you could and you irritate every other driver on the road. Worst case you create a serious safety hazard.

Mine work great though, even in the stock housing. Light doesn't scatter or blind people, it just looks like I have brighter bulbs in there.
