Several Boss Mustang owners have reported similar issues. Most all have been traced to the vent system on top of the MT82 transmission. With higher RPM operations, such as your car over 100MPH, the trans vents fluid out the top, impossible to see, which is deposited on the exhaust where it evaporates immediately producing the oil smell.

Owners who have had issues with excessive engine oil comsumption have not reported a oil smell. The reason is the oil is vented as blow by through the PCV system and is burned as it goes through the engine and converters. The extreme heat of the converters burns the remaining oil there by leaving no oil smell from the exhaust. You can smell the oil so I doubt the engine is the cause, unless there is a leak some where.

Consider having a dealer look at the issue, under warranty of course. If they do not find the problem, you will at least have documented the problem in case something comes up later. Placing a clean sheet of card board under the car after a spirited run may also show where the oil is leaking from. A easy way to determine where the source of the problem is. Just remember, the leak will be above the spots that drip down OR in front of the spot with the oil being blown back when the car is driven. Yep, I changes a few gaskets on a 69 vette chasing a oil leak which turned out to be the power steering system. The fan blew the oil rearward. Oh well, live and learn.

100MPH from a V6. You just have to love the cars Ford is making for us lately.

Good luck tracking down the leak.

100hp 1.5liter 4cyl's can do over 100mph pretty easily. It's not an impressive feat.

I've done 140mph when I was stationed in Germany with a 1.6 liter 127hp Civic.

So your saying I have oil leak on the trans? This sucks, I park my car on a clean driveway and never see oil?

Not actually. The symptoms you listed indicate there may be a issue witht he trans vent system. Since you only notice the smell after the car has been driven over 100MPH it is possible that the trans fluid is venting out the top of the trans. This happened with a few Boss Mustangs which saw track time. They also had issues with the rear diff venting fluid after track sessions. Probably not what you are experiencing.

The amount of fluid pushed out tof the vent was small/minor in most cases I read about. A few were excessive and required the factory to investigate and repair.

From your discription, this sounds like a small amount of fluid. It may be possible that the higher RPM experienced inside the trans at high speeds is kicking out the fluid and the fluid then is blown into the exhaust causing the smell. Just a few drops would likely all that is needed to create the smell.

Just a possibility I wanted to pass along. Ford did fix issues with trans breather stopping the problem. Symptoms were similar.

Good luck.

Hi SkyWitit23

Congrats on the 'Stang!

Why take a chance with your baby?! Follow your fellow posters suggestion and head on over to the local Ford dealer for a diagnoses. Even if there's nothing wrong, I'm sure you'll feel much better. Send me a PM with the VIN, current mileage, as well as your personal and dealer contact info and I'll have the Customer Service Manager review your case.

Hello TMSBOSS,

Thanks for the great advice. Taking the vehicle to the local Ford dealer is always a first great step. Better safe then sorry!

Take care all!

Put some oil on the stove and heat it up.
Does it smell like that?
Or organically like clutch plate material?
