Default New Mustang!!!

I just bought a 2012 Mustang GT dark blue yesterday to go along with my 1966 mustang that ive had for 7 years! A couple questions

1. Can i shift from a gear to neutral without pushing in the clutch? Ex- coasting up to a stop sign and shifting from 4->neutral without the clutch.

2. Can/ should i wax it? Ive waxed many old cars but not sure if i can/should do the same with this one (clear coated i think)?

Thanks in advance and i will be around these forums more often now.

push in the clutch anytime you go in or out of a gear.

you can and you should wax it. typically new paint should be cured for x/amount of time before waxing it, but chances are, a 2012 has had multiple months at this point.

I give it a perfect wash, claybar it then apply your favorite wax/sealant and maintain it. yes, it's clearcoated.

Pics or it didn't happen!

Just what Entaille said regarding shifting. Without engaging the clutch, I would think you're just punishing the gear box...

Yessir wax regularly (maybe once every 3-6 months) to protect the paint. And if you're really into paint protection, get 3M clear sheets to protect the front of your ride from rock chips. I plan on doing this the day after I buy my new 5.0

one of my drivers told me what the terminology was but i have forgotten... something about cars made after whatever year (any car) have widget x and you do not need to use a clutch at all for shifting to neutral or into any gear at all actually as long as you do it at the precise time. I recall trying it on my old mustang and it actually worked. I said.. hmm.. cool... and then never did it again...lol

I come form a family of old gear heads and truck drivers. I can always slip the gears out and I dont think it would hurt myself. If you already do it on some of your cars, i would say you know how to do it.

I know some will call me crazy but, it never scrubs on the way out if you know what your doing, now putting it back into gear is a different story without the clutch.

Sometimes when i start to coast to a stop i will slot the gear to nuetral without the clutch. Only when the engine isnt pushing or slowing it down. It will easily slip out and i didnt figure it would hurt. When i intend to shift up or down i use the clutch all the time.

Edit. Congrats and PICS!

^^ If the engine RPM match the speed of the gears, it'll go right out or in gear without depressing the clutch. I lost the slave cylinder in a Jeep and drove all the way from Yosemite to L.A. without a clutch.

That said, I'm not sure why you wouldn't want to use it since you have it.
