Default 2005 Mustang GT a good base car?

Hey guys,
My father and I are planning on a project and decided on the 05 GT. Is the 4.6 in the 05 GT a good base for road track performance upgrades? If not, what would be the better option? Thanks.

What are your projects? The 4.6L can be increased from it's ~265 RWHP stock to about 340-350 RWHP while remaining NA. Toss on a budget SC and you're above 400. After about 450 RWHP you'll need to swap to forged components.

The S197 is pretty light to begin with and there are a number of weight loss mods for those extra RWHP. Good luck and keep us posted on what you buy and your mods.

Will do! Without a doubt, the intake and exhaust will be modified. Following that will be a supercharger than upgraded suspension for the track. How much can be done before I leave for college, I don't know (not a DD for me). We will probably keep it mild enough for the occasional trip bad powerful enough to get on the throttle. I don't see it being pushed much higher than 400 unless he decides he needs more. I definately will keep you posted!

Be sure to use the forum's search engine. There are many folks here that are SC'd, a lot of good reading and a lot of knowledgable assistance.

Lots of potential for these cars. I bought mine specifically to drag race with. It has outperformed better than I could have planned. I love this car.

I feel the same. I have been very happy with what my car has become with the Mods from what I started with. If you read a lot and contact lots of people, you can actually lose weight while improving every aspect of the car. Erik

Its great news to hear the potential for these cars! Being a corvette guy, all I really know about these cars is the basic mechanics. Unfortunately, I've got college to worry about before getting down and dirty with my own car but, having a lifetime mustang owner as a father and a gearhead(me) for a son, we can kick those 4.6's up a few notches. I'll keel y'all posted but, until then, it's research time.
