It sounds fine. You're not supposed to be able to loosen the filter with just your hands. Don't loosen the filter and try to re-tighten it. You could mess up the seating of the gasket.

You actually installed it perfect. Lube the O ring with a little fresh oil, then tighten by hand as tight as you can get it.

In all the years I've been working on cars I only overtighted one time on an old pickup and that was a darned nightmare getting it off. Ended up hacking the hell out of it, punchin a screwdriver through it to get enuf leverage.

If you can tighten that by hand and get it like that, I'll pay for your next oil change. Trust us, you wont be able to overtighten it unless you're frikkin Arnold S.

  2. require the vice-grips from hell to remove the filter next oil change
I've been doing oil changes on all my vehicles for the paast 30-some years and I hand tighten until 1/2 to 3/4 turn after the gasket seats, then another 1/4 to 1/2 turn with the filter wrench. The filter is tight to come off but not to the point of needing to use unusual measures like the grip from hell or jam a screwdriver thru it for leverage (old school).
LMAO! Awww Nuke bringing back memories of oil running down my arm into my armpit as I drove the screwdriver through and was reefing the hell out of it!

+1, I've done the screwdriver thing, but I think someone else had put that one one!
