I'm assuming the hoods come from the factory painted? I could very well be wrong about this and was just a guess, but if not, that would be another savings. It sounds like the savings would be over $500, I'm guessing not, but there isn't a possiblity I would get money back is there? I'm seriously doubting it but I could see if you chose a cheaper part the insurance company would let you pocket the change.
I am with Nationwide, not sure how GEICO works. I think the repair shop was going to buy it unpainted and then paint it theirselves so they could paint match. Not sure if it comes from the factory painted.

I was told from my adjuster that if I saved over $500, I could pocket whatever was left over. Basically he told me that the check he wrote to the repair shop was my money and I could repair it anyway I wanted. They check was written out to both me and the repair shop. Your adjuster will be able to give you better answers than me though, so I wouldn't get your hopes up until you talk with him.

Yeah, I have a examiner coming out tomorrow to look at my car and I'll be able to talk to him about it. If anything, I'll at least get a CF hood and aftermarket bumper! I guess this is one good thing about high priced OEM parts!

Yes the radiator is crooked and fluid is leaking from it. It doesn't look like the damage reached much further than the radiator so hopefully there's not much beyond that. I can't open the hood so I can't check it out too well.

No, I had a few people really interested but they couldn't get loans.

I am glad that you had fixed the seat brackets. It could have been different if you hadn't. IMO, you are better off with your Mustang than the other cars you were considering.
You will get through this. Let your insurance company fix it right. Upgrade if you can, but it is important not to take shortcuts.

Damn I bet you are glad you got those seat brackets fixed.

It happens to everyone, 'least no one was hurt.

Lots of insurance companies will just cut you a check once you get an estimate or three. If that's the way they play it, it'll be easy to rebuild to your choosing.

When I had a garage incident last month, my insurance company said that if I went to one of their "approved" shops, the shop would be paid directly. If I opted to go somewhere else, they'd send me a check and I'd be on my own. I'd imagine that through an "approved" shop it would have been easier to make additions if the shop found more damage, but I would have gone the check route to explore aftermarket options. (Ended up discovering there was no real damage, cancelled the claim)

Glad you are ok but just FYI, 700 seems cheap for a Carbon Fiber hood, aren't most good ones around 1400? If it is that cheap, don't expect it to look too good after a few years, I know inexpensive carbon fiber almost always turns a yellowish color after time.
