Help!..X pipe install
I had this happen on a Chevy, same place.. The end of the stud was mushroomed & the nut was loose (the nut unscrewed all the way to the end of the stud, but wouldn't come off because of the larger diameter of the mushroomed end) I screwed the nut all the way back on so I had clearance & used a die grinder with a cut off disc & cut about 1/4" of the end of the stud off. Your Dremmel with a disc will also work for this although it will be a bit slower process. (About the same time involved as cutting the nut) This saved the stud & the nut. Can you screw the nut all the way back on & just cut off the end (the last 3 threads where it's sticking) Then just clean up & taper the end of the stud threads with your dremmel so you can unscrew the nut without hurting the threads? This will be easier than trying to cut the nut because of the odd angle, & will save the stud & the nut so you don't have to run to the parts house to buy new ones.
I have a feeling his is like mine-the nut will only spin, won't tighten OR loosen. When I finally got mine off the threads inside the nut were all f'ed up. I never did figure out what it hung up on, but I do think it's an issue with the distorted thread lugnuts.
update...had time to mess with the nut again today. Ended up using a dremel to get the nut off. The threads on the stud are boogered up like I figured. Would it be easier to remove the stud or try and use a die on it to maybe salvage the stud.
