Default Camshaft Position Sensor

2009 Mustang GT/CS

Wife had car out of town, went for a oil change and when she was driving home the engine light came on. My brother in-law has a unit to find out the code, it was the Camshaft Position Sensor, we cleared it and it came back.

Any change they could of bumped it or poured oil on it or did something to it? seems odd that it happened right after. Car runs fine.

Like I said they are out of town and I don't want to drive back to them.

Any help ?

Go have your battery/alternator tested. The cam shaft position sensor code is usually due to a faulty part in the charging system. Most likely the Alternator.

I've heard that the wrong viscosity oil could cause cam position problems. Are you sure they put in the right weight?

I can't imagine that actually happening, maybe if they put in a straight 40-50 weight.

P0340 code is the alternator leaking AC. it makes the cam sensors go nutz. Replace the alternator, preferably with a PA performance alternator from americanmuscle.com. I've heard getting a good alternator from one of the big chains is a crap shoot.

I replaced my alternator with one from Autozone, didn't have time to wait on delivery. Though I get a squeaky start-up now (doesn't matter if it's cold, wet, etc, will always squeak) so I'm assuming it's the alternator pulley. Otherwise appears to be running fine and the belt looks ok.

LOL...You beat me too it, Roy...If it was my wife (in the picture) my "Camshaft Position Sensor" would throw a code for "Stuck in Erection Mode." (Code 069, If I'm not mistaken.)
