Thinking about swapping transmissions
#12
I have a 5 speed manual and love it! Mine is not notchy and is easy to shift. Even the guys at the dealer (when I take it in for service) said it shifts better than many other stangs they have driven. Not sure why....could be because I bought it brand new and I am the only one who drives it.

I hope you don't owe a bunch on this car. If it's yours, take the money you were going to spend on this swap (think big)and add it to what you would get as a trade-in or whatever and that's your budget to get into another car. Would it get you into a man. GT? Probably. Year? Maybe what you have or maybe newer. Maybe a MUCH newer V6. Some things to seriously consider.

Also, check out the below link: Anthony05GT is the first person who did the auto to manual swap I believe, he had it well documented

It doesnt sound as bad as it seems, reading from the above links its definitely "do able". I think a few guys give estimates about cost, probably no more than 2k DIY one of them said. As far as value for your auto trans, IDK, but whatever you get at least can offset some of the cost. '07 and up IIRC, you need a new manual PCM, the 05's and 6's can be re programmed.
I hear ya on the auto to manual! Im an auto myself, and would love to do this.

Only way I'd do this is if:
1) I could do the work myself
2) I had a suitable manual shift mustang with known good transmission sitting in the yard where I could take whatever was needed plus see how everything was positioned and mounted.
3) I could take as much time as needed to get it right
4) I could start the job in the Spring
5) I owned shop manuals that made the differences between the automatic drivetrain and the manual clear.
Did something like this many years ago on an old Chevy. It was a LOT of work but came out alright.

It's not worth it unless you know what you're doing, do the work yourself, have plenty of time and can locate the necessary parts. Honestly, not worth the headache. Trade the auto in and get a manual if you'd like. When it's all said and done, you'll probably save money trading it in vs. doing the swap yourself.
