Suspension confusion
Okay, I'm seeing posts that say after they put new springs on, either it be steeda or eibach, they left the stock shocks and struts on and the ride was better than with after market shocks and struts. So for the best and most comfortable ride, is it best to leave the stock shocks and struts on or buy after market?
Traditionally stock shocks and struts will be softer than aftermarket performance shocks and struts.
This means a smoother ride that stiffer shocks/struts and springs. However, the trade off is shorter lifespan of the shock/strut wit the higher spring rate.
There are lots of different combinations to try, but that common thought is that in order to make performance modifications, you have to sacrifice something. A taught stiff ride will handle better than a soft squishy ride.

If you go with too stiff of a spring, the ride might have a little 'pogo' to it. Cars are old hat to me, been turning wrenches all my life. I am not up to snuff on what is the 'norm' for 5th Gen Mustangs at this point, so am not qualified to tell you parts, just theory. If that makes sense.
I wasn't happy with my stock suspension after I added lowering springs.
Not only was it very bouncy and rough, put it puts extra wear on the shocks, wearing them out faster.
I just installed Coilovers, replacing my Tokico shocks and struts, and I was happier with the ride comfort the Tokico's had to offer..
Lowering springs (if the drop is significant enough) with stock suspension is rought and bumpy.
Throw in some aftermarket (which can sometimes be much softer) and it's much softer.

No offense to Murgatroy but Do not do this. Upgrade the shocks/struts, CC plates at time of lowering springs install and go with a PHB or Watts link to make the proper adjustments as well. If you don't upgrade your shocks/struts you will not have a comfortable ride. I have Steeda Sports/Koni Sports/Steeda HD CC plates and my cars ride quality is FAR superior to stock! Look at Koni SRTs if you want to save some change and you're not looking to go to the track. Very high quality and the ride quality is fantastic!
