Default Axle Back question

I have a 2010GT and have been wanting to get a nice axle back for it. I'm thinking about muffler deletes but still unsure. My friend told me to just remove my stock axle backs and drive it without them for a little while and decide how I like it, and if I do then either just leave them off or get a muffler delete axle back. Question is, is it okay for the car to run it without the axle backs? I'm assuming it really couldn't hurt anything since it's such a small amount of piping and all the way at the back of the car to begin with.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Won't hurt it although you will not get the effect you are looking for. I did it and found that it is suprisingly not as loud as you would think. The sound gets a little distorted with the exhaust dumping more or less under the trunk. Go for it!

Yeah it will sound like crap. Go to YouTube and listen with headphones. That will give you a better idea of the tone. Realize every mod in the chain changes the tone too. Headers, no cats, cams etc...change everything.

I ran with no axel backs for a little while. I found that it hurt my gas mileage a lot..... well maybe it wasnt the delete, but the sound when you punch it is amazing. It is a wired tone at some RPM. I also found that some bumps caused the H-pipe to hit stuff around the rear axel because it now has nothing to support it in the rear. It doesnt hurt anything except the first time it happens, you will think that your rear end is coming apart.

I'm not sure i would go with just removing them. I had a muffler shop take a spare set of take offs and cut the muffler off then they welded a to on the end and it sounds amazing.

Man I'd love to have that setup haha. On a side note my buddy gave me a pair of axlebacks he had sitting around. I'm thinking of putting them on but the only problem is they were in a box with a bunch of those styrofoam popcorn packaging things. Some of which managed to make their way into the exhaust itself. I've managed to shake most out but there's definitely a few stubborn ones that won't come out. Should I worry about them much if it's only maybe like 3 max that are stuck in there?

Thanks again guys, really appreciate the input.
