Shane: I've wondered about this before. Let's say a guy sells his mustang and buys a new one, his old car was "married" to the SCT tuner. Now he has to buy another $370 tuner for his new steed? That's ridiculous IMO.

Tell me please that SCT must have some way to re-boot/reset/reflash the tuner software to unmarry it from his old car to the new one right? If you don't know please get someone from SCT to answer this post.

Personally I love the tuners, but the fact that they are so locked down is troublesome. I imagine somone wanting to sell their used "married" tuner should have someway to sell it to another mustang owner so it could be used effectively.

Thanks,

Tom
Tom,

The tuner can easily be unmarried from the original car buy setting the PCM of the vehicle back to stock. Then you're able to marry the same tuner to a new PCM/vehicle. However, often, people forget to unmarry or divorce the tuner from the original vehicle and then try to sell the tuner. That's the only time you'll have any issues where you need to contact SCT and pay for them to unlock the tuner, in order to marry it to another car.

Hope this clears things up for you!

Shane & Nuke,

Thanks for the info on this. Good to know this can be managed as long as the prior car was returned to stock tune.

Just out of curiosity how can someone buying a 2nd hand tuner know for sure it is un-married? Is ther some photo a person could take in an advertisement to show this?

Yes there is. The seller can hook the tuner up to his/her computer (Or car if they still have it) and it will say Married or Un-Married.

That's good information to know!
If you happen to run across another used SCT tuner, request a picture of the tuner showing it as unmarried. =-)

GriffinGT has the answer for ya! If you're picking the tuner up locally, you can always plug it into your own car as well. You'll be able to tell under device info if the tuner is married or not.
