Default Crooked Wheels?

I installed my new wheels a couple weeks back and noticed that the left rear wheel pokes out a bit from the rear side panel. The right wheel does not, and is in fact sunken inside the rear side panel.

I called American Muscle and they said I need an adjustable pan hard bar to correct that. He also suggested checking the bushings to make sure they weren't worn. He said it isn't critical that I correct this crookedness but do you all feel differently? I had to break really hard today on the highway and my mustang started to wiggle/fish tail a bit. Is that a result of the crooked wheels? Btw, the front wheels look fine.

Is your car lowered? If it is the panhard bar will push the axle to one side, which is much more noticeable with wider rear tires. If that is the case, then AM's recommendation for an adjustable panhard bar is correct.

I haven't noticed any detrimental effects from my axle being off-center, but I do plan to correct it. My car fishtails anyways if I hammer it too hard.

Hmm. It is not lowered. Just stock wheels and tires to aftermarket wheels and tires. I don't feel like this is a huge issue because I don't drive the car hard. Maybe a launch from a red light every now and then. So I feel like the adjustable PHB can wait. I'm hoping that's the case because the new wheels weren't cheap haha.

That's correct, an adjustable pan-hard bar will make it all better....I recommend BMR's PHR006 adjustable pan-hard bar with poly bushings on each end. Easy install, and even easier adjusting.

Make sure you remove the brake rotor retaining clips also as they can cause wheel run out and vibration issues.

Wider than stock wheels, wider than stock tires, and wheels with a smaller positive offset than stock all tend to visually exaggerate any off-centeredness that was probably always there.

Theoretically, an off-center axle will cause a slight yawing of the car under heavy braking, but there can be other causes for the car not stopping straight as well.

It's not a high priority item, but I'd recommend fixing it eventually. Adjustable PHB is the least expensive way, but not the only way. Don't bother replacing the PHB brace.

This is correct. If your differential is off centered, the best way to fix this is an adjustable pan hard par! This will allow you to re center your axles at a very low cost.

thanks for the responses all... i hadn't thought about the fact that the wider wheels could have just shown what was already a flaw in the stock setup.. not surprising though. looks like i have to buy that Panhard bar. that'll push my CAI and Header plans back a bit though.

and btw, 05 Mustang, i absolutely LOVE that terminator in your signature. great stuff.
