Default Time to open the diff cover....... gear noise video

I started noticing some gear whine type noise two months ago. It continues to get worse. It got even worse after this weekends racing. The trutrac has been in there since last summer. I dont think its that. Maybe a bearing or the install was slightly off....IDK. Gonna get my guy who understands this sh*t and fix it. Its louder than the exhaust inside the car. Video doesnt capture the full volume its at. After I accelerate I let it coast to almost a stop......yikes its a nasty noise.

It's not come from the transmission?

Sounds like a rear axle bearing or front wheel bearing. Put the rear axle up on stands to take the load off the rear axle bearings and see if you still have noise. If the noise is now faint it's probably a rear axle bearing. If no noise it's probably a front wheel bearing. Jack up the front and spin the wheels and check for looseness. If all these pass pull the diff cover. Could be a bad carrier bearing.

Moose....changed trans fluid and put it in*N and coasted, no noise change. Trans acting normal.

Timmbo....most definitely coming from the rear. I checked the rear for any looseness, there is none. I like the jack stand idea, will try that. I am thinking its the carrier bearing.....or hoping its that. Lol

Default Update

Turns out my gears and bearings were all fine. My gear guy took off the rear cover and found my truetrac had cracks and chips in it. This unit had less than 3k miles on it. I was able to get it replaced under warranty. I went ahead and installed new 4.10 gears and bearings as I had already purchased them. Car now drives how is suppose to......noise free. Zoom in on the diff pic and you can see the carnage. Shes was breaking up for sure.

Took it to the track this weekend for our July race and had a great night. Took home the hardware.....First place in Pro Street 12.90 class. The win was against a nice 86 fox body whose driver is very good. Interestingly we both had the same reaction times and ETs out to the second decimal. I won by .007 seven thousands of a second. Now thats a close race.

Its nice to have my car back running and winning too.
