S197 Maintenance
Baloney! The service manager at my dealership didn't even know the correct tire rotation pattern. I had to show him the Owner's Guide after the tires had been rotated incorrectly. The Workshop Manual calls for silicone lube to be applied to the weather stripping, but the dealership never does that when the car is in for service.
When I asked about the dealership's printed recommendation for the 15000 mile service, the service advisor said that many of those things were not really necessary.

As for the lube...I don't know of anyone that uses it regularly, and I mean real lube, not "protectant" like armor-all or some other 'cleaner' protectant.
Besides, I wouldn't want to pay the dealership for that type of maintenance, would you?
I prefer to learn and do all the work on my cars myself. Even though I probably have the money to pay a dealer, I prefer doing the work myself, it's entertaining.
Deysha can you find us a list of Ford recommended intervals for fluid changes, or perhaps a more extended and detailed service plan?

Our recommended intervals are in your Maintenance Guide. Everyone has different driving habits, iamzatch. You should base your maintenance on your operating conditions, normal or special.

Almost every decent book I've read about car maintenance says the brake system needs to be flushed at least every two years because the fluid is hygroscopic and the water needs to be removed from the system. You can't check it by inspection. There are strips you can dip in the master cylinder to check on water in the system, but these aren't much good. It's doing the test at the high point of the brake system, but the water tends to gravitate to the lower part of the brake system.
Lubricating the weather stripping? It's buried deep in the Workshop Manual, but not in the material provided to the customer.

What about the differential, brake fluid, spark plugs etc? are these lifetime of the car items?

First car I've purchased myself, yes.
The maintenance booklet for my current car outlines all of these service dates with yearly and mileage level intervals.
Why does the Mustang manual not outline any of it, is the question I am proposing.
