considering GT again?
Rudolf....I choose to drive my car in the Winter.... Sometimes I don't...But, I bought it to be driven. And I take it weekly for an undercarraige wash and body wash/wax.... then park it in a heated shed for the weekends.
Salt erodes only if you let it.... If you clean your vehicle after the week or bad weather breaks...then you should keep it in check. Then in the summer get under there with some steel wool and rub down that exhaust. And undercoat the exposed undercarraige.
If you wanna own a pony you gotta take it out, exercise it, then take care of it when you're done.

OP if you did not grow up driving a RWD on the ice and snow, chances are you won't like it, any more than the car you already have.
I grew up and learned to drive in a RWD car and I drove mine in the winter with the stock all seasons, and no extra weight in the trunk with no problem.
If possible try and find one to test drive and compare for your self.
You could do like Rudolph suggested and get a beater with a heater for the winter.

And OP.....That last comment....Coming from Anchorage Alaska I'd believe his advise.
BTW..If any of you haven't caught on yet... The OP is already used to a RWD and using it in the winter. A genesis coupe is a RWD sports car from Hyundai. And the r-spec of this car is up there in the same HP range as our Stangs. The OP was considering the 2.0T. Hello?
Me thinks the dude already knows about RWD cars and the snow.
Just Saying.
LOL

you know what 4wd does in the snow that RWD or FWD can't? It allows it to accelerate faster before breaking traction. that's it. it's not handling better, stopping faster or any of that mess. just accelerating.
I have driven front drive and rear drive, and 4wd in the snow. The majority of my years have been with rear wheel drive, and the only cars that were "poorer" than the rest in the snow were my 80's Trans Am's and Camaro. They didn't have ABS, no traction control, no stability control, and often due to my youth, tires that didn't have a TON of tread.
My '06 Mustang and my '05 GTO were terrible in the snow with Summer-Only tires. Both were good with all-seasons. Both were TANKS with snow tires.
My '13 seems to have better abs/stability control programming as it seems slightly better than my '06 was in snow on all-seasons.
I spent most of my life in Wisconsin and Minnesota, and know true snow weather. Of my 15 years driving now, only 2 winters were with FWD, and those winters, my other option was a RWD/4WD S-10 Blazer. The rest have been GTO, Mustang, Trans Am and Camaro driven winters.

Yes Mustangs are perfectly fine in snow/slush/and ice. I lived in Alaska and people do just fine in RWD/V8 cars. Even Mustangs. The police drive Crown Vics!
Dedicated snow tires, man up, and learn to drive in snow/ice. That's all it takes. You'll be perfectly fine, just drive according to the conditions. Think about what kind of tires people used to have to drive on back in the day and they made it work with some common sense. My Mustang is safer in the snow than my wife's FWD car with all-seasons.
A RWD/V8 car with snow tires (Blizzak FTW!)

A RWD/V8 car without snow tires (enjoy the snowbank, Slomaro!).

Thanks for all the input on driving in the snow guys. It sounds like the mustang will do fine as long as you drive sensibly and get some good tires. I really want to check one of the mustangs out, but I just did one of those black book estimates and it looks like my car would only be worth about 17.5k at best and I can't afford to lose a couple grand on trade in. I guess its possible I could get a better deal if I were to get a new stang, but maybe it would be better to continue to pay on my car for 3-4 months to get payoff down a bit more. I'm just wondering if there will still be good deals ~25k or so on '14 mustangs with the color I wanted then? Also anybody have any experience at carmax as I hear you can sometimes get a good deal? Problem is the closest one is a couple hour drive away and I don't really have anyone to go with right now.
