Default Chrome wheel winter protection

Hey guys,

I am about to get chrome wheels and wanted to ask if there was a way to protect the chrome from the winter snow and salt?

My original plan was to use my old rims and tires for the winter but the tires are dry rotted so I not longer have that option.

Thanks.

Here in Canada winter is pretty hard on rims. What I do is get a set of cheap winter wheels and ice radials. Leave the good wheels and summer tires in the garage. Check the tire shops or kiji adds for winter wheels and tires as an economical alternative.

Pretty sure I chatted with you on AM's site, I'd just do like I said and Plasti-Dip them. It's just like painting them, but you can peel the coating off when winter is over and it will keep the finish looking nice for the summer time. Only downside is that I don't think they make plasti-dip in chrome, so you'd be left with having to do it in either black or some other color. Black is just the most common and can be found in Lowes, Home Depot, and Advance Auto started carrying it now too.

Besides plasti-dipping I am surprised there is no coating or something to help protect the chrome from salt damage.

You could spray on a product like FluidFilm.

I've got a winter set of Black MSW Type 19 (18" rim) with Michelin X-ice 3's (235/50R18) that i was going to sell. They have 1 winter season on them. Being a fellow Boilermaker, we could work out a deal and I could meet you somewhere. Let me know if you are interested.
