Ford was super cheap in the paint department, and as a result our cars paint chips very easily.

You can touch it up, and it looks pretty good, if you take the time to do it the RIGHT way.

That means first filling the chip with 1 - 2 rounds of filler bondo, followed by sanding.

then primer, then paint, then clear (with sanding in between rounds obviously. I very carefully use 1500 grit, water, and just a little pressure)

then i finish by blending using rubbing compound and 3m scratch remover. Once you have got it all looking pretty good, polish 5 - 10 times for a nice even shine,

I have a couple spots where you can't even tell anything happened.

but honestly, the best thing to do after years and years is just to get a repaint. the factory paint on these cars is sh**. I doubt there is even 3 coats of base.

 

It's not just Ford's paint, its every car's paint. Ever since the all the manufacturers switched from the oil based to water based paints, the paint chips very easily.

 

You guys are taking my "bend" too literally. It's not bent very much at all, just a small arc in the center. You bend the blade enough that when you are shaving the excess touch up paint down, the edges are not touching the paint and adding scratches.

 

In my experience the Dr Color Chip stuff has worked pretty well, much better than the pen and brush applicator

 

I just have 1 small stone chip on the hood that's bothering me but I'm 100% certain no one notices but you. I have mostly scratches near door where a-holes like to scratch it because it's a shiny car (esp my car which is black and just waxed people will scratch it) and it stands out and also jealousy, co-workers, etc. so unless it is hermetically sealed in a medical laboratory away from the general public that want to watch the world burn, you will always get minor scratches, dust, dirt on it, but even when it's slight dust particulate on the paint surface it is still very nice to look at. I'm looking to use colorchip for the scratches and chips soon and will touch it up every time a surface defect appears.
