2012 Mustang V6 Shifter Bracket Bolt Repair
Hello everyone! I'm new to the forums and Mustangs in general, so I need a little help. Two years ago I installed a Barton shifter bracket but I guess I tightened the nut a little too tight and a couple of days ago there was a strange subtle noise coming from the stick shift. Right away I thought about the shifter bracket, so I jacked up my car when I got home and of course, one of the two bolts that you use to attach the bracket to the shifter housing sheared off. I searched other forums and a few people have done this and it looks like there's one of two ways of going about this: 1) Buy the Blowfish shifter bracket (It's really nice and would be awesome but it's $300 that I'm not planning on spending) or 2) drill the screw out. I opted for option 2 but I'm very cautious because there's really no screw head I can just take out or even see and replace with a better one, I'll have to drill through the threads on the bottom of the car to see where I'm at in the interior of the car. This in lies my question. The pictures that I post, is the screws in the first (interior) picture in the same place as the screw in the second (floor) picture? Like a double threaded screw of some sort? If so, how do I even go about repairing this bad boy? Am I being silly and it's not even close to the interior threads or should I just nut up and spend the $300 bucks on a bracket? Thanks for your time and future informative answers.
