My car's steering had been creaking for a while and felt kind of rough, when I got under the dash this is what I found:



The plastic part that goes around the steering shaft was completely out, I took the picture after repeatedly hitting it with a rubber mallet. It didn't go all the way in but at least the steering is back to normal, I plan on replacing that bearing, anyone know what it's called or has a part number for it?
