Default Changing Mirrors

Hi all from a newbie Mustang fanatic in England. Here's a strange one for you all.

Beacause of the very restricted and narrow roads that we enjoy in parts of London, I arranged to have my supplying importer (no official Ford imports, so outside the dealer network) source and fit 2 retractable mirrors and paint them body colour (picture attached). The bodyshop said they were from a (unspecified) truck.

Actually, they are fine except for 2 problems: the worst is that the passenger side mirror won't come in far enough to be useful; I suppose that it came off a smaller vehicle, But the biggest problem is aesthetic, the Stang just needs the big, beefy mirrors it comes with, my folding replacements are too delicate. So back to my question.

I have the original mirrrors and trim strips. They look like are held on by just 3 bolts and a plug-in electrical connection, so I would like to fit them myself. But how do I get the plastic moulding off the inside of the door to do the job? Is it just 'popped' on or does the entire door trim have to come off, and if so, is it straightforward?

All thanks in advance

I dont know about the mirrors.. Perhaps you could fit the Xenon mirror covers and then paint these the right colour. I agree the car is fairly wide. I also live in London and have to slow down for the first time through width reatrictions.

holy crap... just WHERE in london do you live? you ACTUALLY have a front yard! My family is from london and you gotta have alot of QUID to hold down a place like that AND import a left hand drive american car

I wouldnt try to "pop" out anything without checking one of thouse multi purpose manuals... i know that publishers like HAYNES write manuals for all kinds of cars that show how to take thing apart like door moldings center consoles, etc. you may wanna see if there is any documentation.

The molding just pops right off. At least it did for me when I took my mirrors up to see how much to get them painted. You shouldn't need to remove anything on the door.

Removing the mirrors: DanteMo (Frank) and others: I will be painting my mirrors; would prefer to remove them to do this. Sounds like popping off the one moulding is all that is needed to access the mounting bolts and wire. Frank, you have already done this, can you add some detail on what was involved and any 'how to' that you can offer. Thanks!!!! Oh by the way what price did you get for painting (Base and clear)? Who's doing the prep-work to eliminate the grainy finish? Thanks again for the info.

06 GT Black on leather parchment; due at the dealer in about 10 days. Jim

Just squeeze two sides together and pull... It should pop out. Then it's three nuts to take off and disconnect the wire... It's self explanatory when you get the moulding off on the inside of the car. I got a quote for 27 bucks per mirror to have them painted. I did not get them painted because I was afraid the texture of the mirrors would show through. Now I've decided against getting them painted as I like the black on my redfire...Hope this helps...
