Completely disagree.I have seen it more than once and the news article about the chevy dealership (quoted above) proves there is a need.
If you lock your house, lock your car, and lock your bike, I see no reason why not to have this precaution that is a very cheap, use it and forget, "preventive" measure.

Wheels can be stolen from any neighborhood regardless if it's a ****ty area.

You can try a local tire shop as well for locking lugs.
