Default Wrong VIN#

I picked up my new 06 mustang today and when I get home the dealer calls to inform me that the VIN# they put on my contract is wrong. They seemed a little panicky and wanted me to come right back in to resign a new contract, but I told them I was too busy and I would come in sometime over the weekend. Does anyone know if this could be a problem for me or the dealership or if I can somehow use this to my advantage? If nothing else it is kinda funny.

Well if the VIN# is wrong and it actually belongs to another Mustang, your repair records will never be right, any Recalls for your car, you will not necessarily be properly notified, Carfax will have incorrect info on it, the insurance company will have questions, if your car is ever stolen and the registration doesn't match, good luck getting your car back...etc, etc, etc. VIN# is akin to DNA on a car. No two are alike.

I don't see how you could use it to your advantage or why you would want to. Unless you found a deal somewhere else and want to walk out of the car...since you never received the car you signed for...technically it's not yours!

I'm not sure about the laws of all states but did you by chance sign a "Compliance Agreement"?
