IS IT TACKY TO USE COBRA EMBLEMS?
I seen your post with the dyno sheet and if I am reading it correctly it shows you have max. hp of 481 @ 6,500 (approx.) and max. tq of 419 @ 4,500.
I kind of question your dyno graph because either the torque seems to low or horsepower to high. Generally they are pretty equal with torque generally being a bit higher then horsepower.
The 2004 Cobra has a max. hp of 390 @ 6,000 and max. tq of 390 @ 3,500. It looks like you have about 310 ft-lbs at 3,500. Needless to say you may be out running the “old†cobras but not by much at all.
The question will be when the new Shelby Cobra’s come out in 2007. Those will smoke you big time with (estimated) hp of 500 – 550 running 0 – 60 mph in “possibly†less then 4.0 seconds. They are also estimated to run the ¼ mile in the low 12’s to high 11’s.
As was mentioned earlier it is your car and your choice. I own a SVT Lightning which will run the ¼ mile in 13.4 in completely stock trim. I see guys sometimes start putting Lightning badges on standard F150’s, along with the rims, molding etc. However they are rarely up to the task when it comes to horsepower and torque and still run in the high 15’s to low 16’s in the ¼ mile.
So what happens is when someone hands them their *** they think they “actually†beat a factory produced Lightning when that is not true.
Unless you get your Mustang into the 500 – 550hp range, running 0 – 60mph in 4.0 seconds or less with ¼ times in the low 12’s to high 11’s I would say you will be doing a dis-service to “real†Mustang Cobra owners. To put it another way if there is another vehicle out there that could hang with a stock 2007 Cobra they would whoop on you and think they actually beat a “real†Cobra.
I actually had some kid in a 2004 SRT-4 or what ever the turbo Dodge Neon is think he could whoop me since he thought he had actually beat another Lightning (it was a regular F150 made to look like a Lightning). Took it to the track and won $200 from him. He asked what the “whine†noise was… [sm=jawdrop.gif]

You think good enough to beat? I think you could come in at the same level and get away with it.
So, do you call yourself a Mustang Cobra or a Cobra Replica or "car with a snake" ???
ORIGINAL: V2GT
yah..if you're going to look good..you should have muscle to back it up. If you put the Cobra badges on..at least have enough under the hood to beat one.

More torque than HP on a new mustang? I'd like to see that? I SMOKE stock cobras and you aren't looking at all my mods, gears, etc... My car NEVER runs under 3500 RPM when I'm on it. BTW: My car runs 11.80's with 1.59 60' and will be a 10 sec street car when I finish the motor. Few cars at the track beat me, including vipers, vets, LS1's, SS, etc, etc, unless they have had some work done. Also, all ford HP is rated to the flywheel and not the wheels. I venture to say my car is faster now than the new shelby will be stock. I also think we'll all be lucky to see a shelby on the track in the next three years. They'll be in garages 99% of their life. I don't even squeeze my 150 shot yet cause the rods can't handle it. We actually backed off the car quite a bit with that dyno. it can easily go 500-520 but no stock mustang GT motor can handle it. You are pushing the car with 450 RWHP without major engine rebuild.
THE BOTTOM LINE:
If they beat my car - then they will easily be able to spank a cobra anyway. Cobra owners should be lucky people may think my car is a cobra! Or, maybe not, maybe it will make people think their cobra is slow...hmmmm...
Your comparison to the F150's doesn't apply. My car is not a stock GT so I don't embaress myself by running low 14's /high 13's with a cobra emblem. And if someone 'handed me my ***' in this car - then they deserve to say whatever they want.
PS - You should be careful dismissing neons. All the SRT's I know (dozens) will spank your lightning.

You have to remember that a stock Lightning, though rated at 380hp at the flywheel, puts down 355 - 365 on average to the wheels. That means the motor is actually putting out around 420hp at the flywheel. Mine dyoned at 368 at the rear wheels. My 1/4 mile times are average of 13.4, with a best of 13.28 @ 104 and that is in stock trim. Stock SRT neans from what I seen run high 13's when driven correctly...
The reason I mentioned your hp vs. torque was it just seemed a bit odd that your hp was much higher then your tq when stock Mustang ratings are about equal, as in the 2004 Cobra with 390hp and 390ft-lbs.
I am surprised to hear that the 4.6 can't handle more then 500 or so hp. I thought they had stronger rods then the 5.4's in the Lightnings. The stock 5.4 in Lightnings can handle about 470 - 500hp to the wheels before it gets a little dangerous for the rods which are the weak link in the supercharged 5.4's. Don't forget the weight of a Lightning is approx. 4,700 lbs. Not to bad of a stock motor that can pull 13.4's in stock trim and whoop SRT neons that weigh about half that...
You are correct that my comparing F150's didn't make much sense here since you have a highly modified Mustang. Also that is a DAMN good 60' time. For a Lightning to get that kind of 60' would require some decent slicks or a REALLY well preped track. For about $600 you can get Lightnings in the high 11's to mid 12's, with a pulley and tune, but then it ain't stock.
I apoligize if my post came across the wrong way. I was just pointing out that if your Mustang could not hang or beat the Shelby (when ever it comes out) might be a problem. However, with the times you give I don't think there will be any issues with that.
Stock Cobra's the 2004 and I believe the 2003 (those with superchargers) normally run in the low 12's (stock) with a good driver.
I admires those that can highly modify their rides, like yours. Are you sure the 4.6 GT can't handle more then 500hp? Do the 4.6 that come in the 2003 and 2004 Cobras have the stronger rods? I guess that's where I am thinking it can handle more since the 4.6 Cobra motors are rated or capable of handling somewhere between 800 - 1,000hp with their rods and crank.
That is the downside to the new mustang. When they came out, I THOUGHT they were going to have many of the cobra components - specifically forged internals & crank. They don't and that's 1 big (of the many) reasons a cobra can handle more HP than the new mustang. I know of several cars that have been just over 450 RWHP and lasted about a month. I personally keep a pump gas tune in my car that puts out around 420-430 RWHP. When I'm going to drag, I switch to a 110 octane tune that (amoung other things) bumps the timing up around 17 degrees and puts my rev limiter to 7000 rpm. The high octane protects the pistons, but I honestly could throw a rod on any one of my passes. If I was not building a new motor (using mostly cobra parts) I wouldn't even consider running that tune. I only jokingly brought up the neon issue for the sake of my friends. My shop specialized in Neons for years before moving to mainly mustangs. I have a lot of neon friends who have very nice cars. Of course none of them stock. Your truck is a fun truck to watch pass at the track. I was never suggesting a stock neon could match the lightning. But, I don't hang around too many people that run stock anything. Most people on this site always get into debates over stock vs. stock and that might work well were they live, but here in California, it is RARE to a race a stock anything. Z06 and viper being one of the few exceptions, and even a lot of those are blown and tweaked.
Stock cobras would also need a very good driver to run in low 12's. Most I have seen run in the high 12's / low 13's. Also, I have great 60' solely beacause of 4.10 gears and Mickey Thompson ET Street tires. I only recently found out that drag radials (B.F. Goodrich & Mickey Thompson) are made up of the same rubber compound as regular tires. Only the ET Streets are the same compound as race slicks. I would love to say it's my driving ability but everyone I know who tried 4.10's with ET Streets achieved much better 60' times.
BOTTOM LINE - Yes, anything over 450 RWHP on the new mustangs is not safe for the stock motor.

Its not a cobra, so in my opinion it appears to this person that it will say WANNA BE. Why do you have to display that? Be proud that its what you created. How About that emblem that has the racing flags with 281 on it.
