SUPERCHARGER
Fellow Mustang Lovers,
The time has come for me to order my supercharger, I'm looking for one with massive hp gains, and reliability. Price is not an issue. After reading tons of posts on this and other forums I wanted to go with the Saleen. Then after talking to a few Saleen employees I decided against it. What Sc would any of you recommend? thanks so much

Just my very non professional opinoin, hold off a little while until KB gets theirs out on the streets.
I certainly prefer the twin screw type, BUT...if I had cash in hand and was going to buy right now, I am kinda leaning toward the Vortech. The Saleens are not making all that impressive of numbers and you have to spend another $500+ easily on parts after you buy their kit. The Prochargers are making descent numbers, but for the most part they are running out of fuel with them and ATI doesn't seem to be able to supply the parts to fix it. The Vortechs ( at least the few I have heard about ) are coming with new MAF, new injectors, new fuel pump, etc., everything pretty much right out of the box. I have seen one article with the power being 580hp! Granted, it is probably a ticking time bomb, but neither ATI or Saleen have came close to that.

Must be nice for price to not be an issue! If that's the case, wait a few months and trade up to a GT500.[8D]
I'm also curious as to what the Saleen folks told you to make you change your mind. I spoke with them back in the Spring about getting one of their units. Two things turned me off, 1) the guy I spoke with said I "might" need a new hood for clearance issues, and 2) they don't/didn't offer any smaller pullies for more boost. The Saleen is a nice looking unit to be sure, but it is nowhere near worth the price based on its power output compared to the competition for the same or LESS money!
I say wait for Whipple to release their kit. I'd look into Ken Bell if I could actually find some information or a website for them.[>:][:'(]

After talking to a few friends from elsewhere in the performance world, it became apparent to me that one of the leading engine builders for 4.6/5.4 ford motors of any type is SHM, Sean Hyland Motorsports. As of the publication date on thier book, they were building 200 motors a year.
They have a book out on the Mod motor, which isn't new enough to have info on the 3 valve motor we have, but covers 2 and 4 valve versions of this motor extensively. If you REALLY want some power, based on my own experiance of building and maintaining an 8.80 drag car, i see they have a good handle on shortblock machining, oiling, fuel delivery, and forced induction setups. I wouldn't hesitate to get an entire package from them, which would have to include the following to make massive(600+hp and way beyond) power from a new GT mustang; complete blower/supercharger package with the proper fuel system to support that kind of power for a lot longer than a few seconds, a good tuneup to go with it, and a new shortblock and heads to keep it all together so you can enjoy the drive for a long time without worry. There are many issues that have to be addressed to keep a 500+ hp package from self destructing, and having started working on forced induction setups for this motor in 1995, they have a lot of experiance in the field.
My personal quest for more power took the form of the Saleen blower, which probably has an upper limit of in the nieghborhood of 700hp capability, but may need new valvetrain, ported heads, new cams, new forged components in a better block, and an entirely new fuel system to feed it all, not to mention an entire exhaust system. My project is going to stall at about 425hp for a long time, a reasonable amount of power that can be had with a stock fuel pump, exhaust system and motor. I picked the Saleen setup because it is a very good looking unit, and has very good low speed charactiristics.
From what i understand, the stock shortblock and fuel system just won't support much more for any extended amount of time.

about 6 months before I want MORE POWER!!!
I'm looking for 420 to 460 RWHP and would rather it be a Whipple.
I want to hear what saleen said also, as I also just started looking into one for my own car.
I will probably do the saleen due to the fact that it puts so little stress on the engine. I don't want to push my car too far past the 450 horse mark with a power adder because i am concerned about the short block blowing up. I am still running a stock long block and plan to keep it that way for a long time. But if saleen said something different, please tell me.
