Engine Start Button HELP!
okay so im looking to mod my car (first mod) with the start button, can someone help me out? i have NO idea what im getting myself into. I found this online, but i dunno if its the right kit (it seems like it would require me to take the dash off? http://www.fordmustangstore.com/Shop...eIndexID=48106 Can someone enlighten me with the ins and outs of this process and also if there are other, maybe easier to install kits out there? I would greatly appreciate it!
Thanks

well i'm relying on the rest of you to correct me if i'm wrong, but with that kit- you will still need to use a key, put it in the ignition to the "on" position (the one right before it cranks), then push the button to start it. To me, thats a waste- i'd want a kit that you spend a little more money and time on and you just have a wireless "chip" that you carry around vs a key and it knows when you get in/near the car and you can start it by pushing the button. I'm not sure if they make an aftermarket part for it- but i know that newer Infiniti G35's have a feature where when you get close to it the interior lights come on and it unlocks, and when you leave, it locks up by itself. I'd get that kit if you could find it. Good luck!

To the original poster, you might want to go for the Honda S2000 button like most of the rest of us did. It's a perfect fit, it doesn't have some other aftermarket company's name printed on it, and it's relatively easy to install.
A couple shots of mine:

The ideal setup is close. Very close. We (premium GT with Passive Anti-Theft System) are part way there. The keys do have a transmitter in them that when put near the transponder located in the steering column allows the car to start. With out that, the key will turn the tumbler but not start the car. So, the car can tell when one of the coded keys is there. I only have to figure out how to have that sytem activate the rest of the starting sequence and then bang we are off and running.
I too have the S2000 switch installed and love it! I know you can still turn the key but it's the cool factor, pure and simple. The new Corvettes have the starting sytem that you speak of and so do many Euro cars now. I've even heard that one of the BMW's doesn't even come with a key hole any more.
There is one problem. Well, not really a problem but something I had not thought of until a friend cought it, how do you turn it off?
It won't be too difficult or too ling before someone gets it right. Oh, by the way, the S2000 switch is available in the form of a kit from restomod.com I think. Or you can order it from Honda Accessories and do it yourself. If you run into problems let me know, i'll post what I can on here. There is also some good information on the topic over at The Mustang Source forums under Interior Appearence. I think I was the last one to chime in on the thread about the starter switch. I noticed that people were just hooking them up with out properly simulating the key switch. I have mine set to work exactly the same as the switch located in the steering column. The right circuits start, and the right circuits cut off while starting.
Good Luck

Sorry, i got the site wrong. It was 50resto.com I tried to post a link but their site is really slow this morning. It's on their home page or just do a search for "start button". Notice, they are selling a honda switch with a relay, fuse holder, and some wire for $100. I did the exact same thing with the same parts for under $50. My mommy says I'm smart. [&:]
